| Bilal Shareef was a Muslim student at West Side High School in Trenton, New Jersey. His Islamic religious beliefs prevent him from entering a building displaying religious imagery of any kind. Over his objection, West Side High held its graduation ceremony in a Baptist church under a sculpture of Jesus Christ. Bilal did not attend. Under the first amendment he is suing the school district for violations of his right to free exercise of religion, and the prohibition of establishment of religion by government. |
