School officials in Florida denied a student group - the Gay Straight Alliance - the right to meet on school grounds. Officials and students object to the group on religious grounds. The 1984 federal Equal Access Act prohibits denial of public school meeting space based on the content of meetings. Ironically, the federal statute was enacted to guarantee the first amendment rights of religious groups to meet on school grounds.
