Firefighters and policemen in Albuquerque, New Mexico organized a charity boxing tournament complete with ring-girls in bikinis. The mayor threatened to fire the participants because sex and violence would tarnish the city’s reputation. A federal judge enjoined the mayor from carrying out the threat as a content based restriction on free speech: firefighters and policemen were traditionally permitted to play football complete with scantily clad cheerleaders.
