Miss Martha Piggee was an Illinois community college cosmetology instructor. She was fired for sexual harassment after she gave a student a religious anti-gay pamphlet. She sued the college for dismissing her in retaliation for speech protected by the first amendment. The United States Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit ruled the college has an interest in ensuring that its instructors stay on message in a beauty clinic just as they would in a classroom.
