After an Arkansas public school superintendent and principal were ordered by a judge not to “orchestrate or supervise” school prayers, a graduation ceremony took place with prayer. The officials blamed the senior class. Two teachers - paid to serve as senior class sponsors - designed the program listing prayer as part of the show. The officials were found to be in contempt of court. Public school sponsored prayer is government endorsement of religion in violation of the first amendment’s establishment clause.
