In Florida, 76 year old Basil Dalack was elected to a city council seat. He refuses to take the required oath of office to “protect and defend” the federal government. He took the oath as a council member in 1999 but now refuses because of the war in Iraq. He has also proposed council resolutions calling for impeachment of Cheney and Bush for war crimes. He has sued the municipality alleging a violation of the first amendment prohibition on compelled speech.
