Each Memorial Day, a Missouri veterans group sponsors a public air show. The group sought to prevent peace activists from carrying signs and handing out leaflets. They argued the show is intended as a forum for expression of support for the military, and veterans are entitled to a first amendment “expressive association” right to exclude those who express an opposing message. A federal judge disagreed. The Air Show is a public forum - not a place designated for discussion of the military, the war, or to hear speeches on any topic. Further, the activists do not seek to join the veterans group or to alter its message.
